Interventional Methods for Cancer Pain

The pain experienced in various types of cancer is linked to different causes. This varies depending on the type of cancer, its stage, and the patient's pain threshold. The intensity of cancer-related pain usually ranges from moderate to severe. Each patient's pain is unique, which necessitates a specialized treatment plan for each individual.

Pain in cancer is primarily due to three reasons:

  • Reasons related to the tumor (77%)
  • Reasons related to cancer treatment methods such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy (19%) • Reasons unrelated to cancer (4%)

Interventional methods used for cancer pain include:

  • Neurolytic - nerve-damaging nerve blocks
  • Radiofrequency thermocoagulation
  • Morphine pumps These methods should only be administered by pain specialists who are trained in this field. Patients should be informed about the side effects and risks of these methods beforehand and their consent should be obtained.
